This article results from a paper demanded by the Sociology of Education Group of Anped, which objective is to improve the theoretical debate on gender. As it was impossible to develop a comprehensive approach of all the tendencies and discussions about this concept, the text focused on the authors more frequently referred in the papers presented to the Group in the last ten years: Scott, Bourdieu and Connell. We believe that the questions posed in this paper should help educational researchers, even they are not gender specialists, to consider gender relations in their specific studies.
