From the history of school subjects to the history of school culture: a research trajectory

This text is a reflection on the trajectory that a research group on "Teachers and School Subjects", from the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul, has been pursuing and on how it arrived at the study of history of school culture, starting from research into the history of school subjects. For this reflection we analyse presuppositions from the field of investigation known as "history of school subjects", according to Chervel, and concepts of culture and school culture, as posited by Williams, Forquin, Julia, Faria Filho, Viñao-Frago and Escolano. We argue that research into the school culture of a determined school can lead to the reconstitution of the history of school culture in a specific city.
