TEXTUALIST ANALYSIS IN POLITICAL THEORY: THE THOMAS HOBBES BY LEO STRAUSS

Abstract

The article aims to reconstruct Leo Strauss’s textual interpretation of Thomas Hobbes’ political theory. It is argued that, in the reading of the German theorist dwelling in the United States, the notion of a ceaseless search for existential stability emerges from the thought of the author of Leviathan as the ultimate goal of all individuals and, therefore, of the need for the natural right to the State.
