The exhaustion of cities: counter-gentrification and urban interventions in Portuguese and Brazilian cities

This article aims to explore the differences of approaches and experiences of historical cities in urban ennoblement Brazilian and Portuguese historical cities, with the empirical cases in the cities of Recife, Salvador, Porto and Évora. The semi-condition that, although in different ways, characterizes the framework of the two countries in international economic and political system, allows exploring how these trends are felt at the time that the approximations and the distances that characterize the relationship history between Brazil and Portugal open other possibilities on the analytical understanding of the ways to cross these contemporary gentrification influences.
