Environmental governance in the government plan of presidential elections in 2014

Abstract

The article examines how the eleven candidates for president 2014 elections to treat environmental governance in their government plans. The methodology consisted of a content analysis of their programs. The survey was conducted in the period August-September 2014, during the election campaign. Nine of the eleven presidential candidates include it in the text. Three profiles of environmental governance are identified. The first is focused on economic growth reconciled with sustainability. The second puts the preservation of biodiversity as the basis for the green economy. The third is to present criticism of predatory capitalist exploitation of nature. Two government plans stand in relation to the scale of governance guidelines and detailing sectored proposed: the Marina Silva and Aécio Neves. Others treat it less consistently, certainly motivated by the relevance of green agendas today and the party competition.
