“Revisiting” some theses of the past: the 2006 election and the antagonistic dispute between PT and PSDB

Abstract:

The antagonism during the Free Election Propaganda Schedule (HGPE) points to a better understanding of the impact that this area of political dispute has on the will of the voter. The objective of this article is to demonstrate the antagonistic construction of the speeches produced by the PSDB and PT candidacies made during the HGPE broadcast on television in the 2006 presidential election. For this, we used the theoretical and methodological aspects of the theory discourse of Laclau and Mouffe. We find that, once again, the discourse around the economy emerged as an antagonistic nodal point and served to “camouflage” the “corruption” theme that could damage the PT candidacy, in addition to verifying that the concept of antagonism can be an effective methodological and analytical tool for understanding the influence of the HGPE on the vote.
