Gymnastics as a research topic in Brazilian physical education postgraduate programs (1980-2020)

ABSTRACT

This documental study aimed to characterize the knowledge production about gymnastics over the period 1980 to 2020 in theses and dissertations of stricto sensu postgraduate programs in physical education in Brazil and to identify the advisors and Higher Education Institutions (HEI) with greater representation in gymnastics through their productions. In total, 20 theses and 109 dissertations were identified. UNICAMP is the HEI responsible for 31% of the productions and among the professors stand out Nunomura, M., Nista-Piccolo, V.L. and Souza, E.P.M. Artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, and gymnastics for all are predominant and prospected, mainly in the sociocultural and pedagogical areas. This panorama shows that other modalities and areas still need to be studied.
