At the limits of autonomy: reflections on blind review practices and editing scientific administration journals in Brazil

Given the perception that there exists a gap in quality between Brazilian and international academic publications, in this essay we revisit the debate on models of reviewing and the publication of articles in the Administration area in Brazil. Our emphasis is on the institutional aspects, more specifically on the role of editors and the editorial board in this process. We outline and discuss two "pure" models of reviewing and publication of scientific articles. Assuming that the introduction of foreign ideas is not necessarily devoid of creativity, we offer a criticism of publication practices in Brazil, discussing the value attached to the reviewers' autonomy in the process, and the organizational challenges faced by editors and the editorial board when it comes to constructing top quality and high impact articles.
