Vida(s) Maria(s): a woman’s history and the portraits of violence in narratives told

Abstract

This paper analyzes the narrative of a woman experiencing domestic violence and the imbrications between her life history, gender impositions, and the construction of her identity. Hence, a qualitative research based on the triangulation of methodological sources by means of narrative interviews, daily observations, and document protocols was carried out. The results considered the personal, family and relational elements related to the construction of scenarios in which the perpetration of gender-based violence may have been corroborated in the production of characters and resistance over time. Such discussions contribute to advance the understanding of violence against women in Brazil, tensioning a critical analysis that puts into question the sociopolitical aspects that reinforce the hegemonic exercise of a patriarchal culture.
