Haitian migration: the subject facing the (re)encounter with the excess

Abstract

This article is a qualitative study about the migration of Haitian subjects. This study approaches the existence and/or frailty of the migrant’s coping resources, considering that the conditions of the destination country sometimes reiterate the helplessness experienced in the country of origin. Three Haitian migrants participated in this study; they came to Brazil after the Haiti earthquake and provided interviews. The data obtained were analyzed through Interpretative Analysis, proposed by Erickson, and explored with theoretical collaborations of Psychoanalysis. As contributions, this study provided access to the subjects’ narrative about their unique and complex experiences, as well as the emphasis given to social, psychic and subjective aspects so that interventions on the migration phenomena recognize the importance of considering the migrant subject in his/her complexity.
