This paper presents and discusses the idea of the "psychic apparatus" within the limits of Freudian First Topography. Considering that in chapter VII of Interpretation of Dreams, Freud defines the psychological reality as a special form of existence and the dream as a special form of thought, the relation between these forms is questioned. Then the author analyzes the question of interpretation to reach, along with Freud, a comprehension of the "psychic apparatus" as a symbolic apparatus opened to intersubjectivity and to cultural formations, such as literature and art.
