Adolescent's opinions and experiences about respect, privacy and family violence protection rights

This study investigate the opinion and the experience of adolescents about their rights to respect and privacy, and protection from physical violence within the family. Participants were 50 teenagers from 12 to 18 years in the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre. The instruments used were the Self-Report Inventory on the Situation of the Rights and the Rights Knowledge Questionnaire. 32.7% reported violation of their rights of privacy and respect, and 50%, violation of the protection against physical violence. There was no significant difference between the group that suffered many rights violations and the one that suffered a few, in relation to the opinion on these specific rights, although, the group that suffered more violations showed a stronger support for campaigns for the protection against those violations. These results indicated the importance of creating spaces that allow the participation and discussion of adolescents' ideas about their rights.
