This study is the consolidated result of a cross-industry analysis of the maturity of information systems (IT/IS) project management. A web-based survey was used to map IT/IS project management maturity through the perceptions of professionals in several organizations in Brazil. The project management maturity of 56 organizations in Brazil, grouped by industries such as services, manufacturing, retail, the public sector and not-for-profit, was analyzed. The field research was undertaken in 2011, using the results of several empirical studies and PMI’s OPM3Ò framework. The paper shows that there is no evidence that overall IT/IS project maturity (in all knowledge areas) is related to the industry to which an organization belongs. On the other hand, the data provides non-parametric statistic evidence that large organizations have higher levels of overall IT/IS project management maturity.
