Moral education for autonomy

Moral education is currently an important issue of the moral development research area, in Brazil and abroad. However, there are not many research studies about educational programs that aim at developing moral autonomy. This paper presents the discussion group on social and moral dilemmas as a successful methodological strategy to promote moral consciousness in children. The study analyzes the process of moral thought change, it identifies the stages where changes occur, and interprets these modifications. Finally, it discusses some theoretical limitations of the model and offers suggestions for future research.
