This article discusses variations in the analytical method of literacy by examining the handwritten booklet "'O Livro de Hilda'- the teaching of reading by using the analytical method", written by João Köpke and diffused in 1902. The booklet in exam is the original first edition and documents the author's investment in this literacy method. The analysis shows the particularities of the textual and visual aspects of the booklet in comparison with other similar teaching materials produced at the time in the light of recent findings in the field of school culture.
