"Actions that decency orders shut up": aspects of the relationship between school, teaching and sexuality in the XIX century

Abstract

Studies show us that Education in the nineteenth century was marked by diverse experiences like facing challenges resulting from the performance of teachers, the relationships established between them and their students, the environment and principles that was sustained. Based on Instruction of official documents in the Brazilian Empire's capital, this article aims to reflect on some experiences in school environments, related to morals, sexuality and teaching. The procedures listed were analyzed in the investigation of alleged crimes, the authorities involved and the laws in force. Considering the role of teachers, the study aimed to reflect on what was understood as an ideal model of teaching and, similarly, signal for further enlargement of the topics and historiography of the interests of Education.
