Culture and formation: the idea of human formation in contemporary society

Abstract

In this text the reader will find a critical reflection on human formation in the context of the prominence of economic relations in the orientation of subjective and social life. It is argued that the economic system has become the meaning and the north of the educational process. In this sense, theformation of the human being in its rational, ethical and aesthetic dimensions no longer represents the meaning and the guiding thread of the formative process, but the preparation and transformation of people into “human capital”, adapted to the interests of the market. The question to be answered is whether, in the extreme valuation of the economic, the human being still has conditions andchances to preserve his freedom and autonomy as essential conditions of his humanity. It is argued that education can and should resume a proactive agenda, aiming at the integral education of the human being.
