Glycidyl azide polymer (GAP). II: reaction mechanism

GAP is an energetic material that can be used as binder or plasticizing agent in propellants and explosive mixtures. The glycidyl azide polymer (GAP) can be synthesized by direct conversion of epichlorohydrin. Here, a mechanism is proposed for the reaction used, based on an analysis of infrared spectra of intermediate species.
