Characterization of curriculums of professional formation in Physical Education: focusing on health

This paper aimed to analyze the health concept in Physical Education curriculums at the main universities in Paraná State, Brazil. The theoretical limitation was the two most accepted sources, one that encompasses heath through the biomedical model, and the other within the "New Health Promotion" strategy. The qualitative methodology was applied through the documental analysis technique. Six public universities in Paraná State were analyzed, totaling 12 courses, six bachelor degree and six teacher licensing courses. The results showed that effectively, recommendations from specific Curricular Guidelines were put into practice, as a result, the World Health Organization health concept, "Health Promotion", was recommended. We noticed that three courses chose the humanistic health approach for teacher licensing courses, and the biological one for bachelor degree; three courses included this discipline in bachelor degree only, two with biological approach and one with a humanized approach. We concluded that, although the ideological changes that formed the pedagogical political projects in theory agreed with the "New Health Promotion" movement, what prevails is the idea that Physical Education professionals must only supervise physical activities grounded on biological bases, rejecting other related factors.
