This paper aims to present a brief outline of the theoretical intersections in the short history "The looking glass. Rough draft of a new theory of the human soul", by Machado de Assis. It departs from the tradiction of social theory that suggests a sociological syntheses between action and strutcture that is closely linked to the issue of one's construction of identity and subjectivaction, their reproduction and social transformation.
