Abstract

The article aimed to analyze the reports of professionals who care for children with congenital syndrome caused by the Zika virus (SCVZ), on the changes in the work process caused by the epidemic. Qualitative research with data triangulation carried out at a Reference Center for Neurodevelopment, in a capital of Northeastern Brazil, from April 2018 to January 2019. The participants were 12 higher education professionals who worked at the institution at the time of the epidemic of Zika. They were adapted, semi-structured and participant observation, seeking data triangulation. A content analysis was carried out in the thematic modality. The results were categorized into: An unknown epidemic and the reorganization of care. The emergence of a new epidemic caused uncertainty in professionals, given their ignorance of the recent syndrome. It produced a feeling of insecurity and disorganization in the work process. It was concluded that an epidemic brought to light existing weaknesses and made it urgent to reorganize practices and expand the infrastructure of services.
