Ernst Jünger: figures of conservatism

Abstract

The article aims at a comparative analysis of Ernst Jünger's works The worker and On the Marble Cliffs. Its objective is to demonstrate that the author's conservatism encompasses the two works, which represent two distinct phases: the first was marked by the search for the union of the mechanic and the organic through heroic realism, and the second by the search for a transcendent Order. Thus, if, on the one hand, the author changes his political view, departing from the horizon of Nacional-socialism by means of the allegorical character of On the Marble Cliffs, on the other hand, his work remains linked to an aristocratic and conservative emphasis on an Order that determines life. From that perspective, we look for similarities between figures and images outlined in both in The worker and On the Marble Cliff, as well as other works created in the interwar period.
