Therapeutical interaction in mental health using the mediated learning theory

The relationship between therapist and patients with mental illness and consequences of interaction pattern between both were discussed using the Mediated Learning Experience Theory, proposed by R. Feuerstein. Using an operationalization proposal of the Mediated Learning Experience Rate Scale of C. S. Lidz, the mediation pattern of therapist with two patients was analyzed. The therapist and patients were observed in 15 socialization activities situation. The data were analyzed using an operationalization proposal above. The results showed that therapist adopted an excellent mediation pattern for the principal scale criteria. It showed the therapist involved the patients in that activities intentionality and the therapist stressed and attached a positive meaning for the patient's behaviors. Furthermore, the therapist used past and future events to establish relations between elements of the activity and the patient's knowledge in theirs learning process.
