Effects of weed interference periods on the peanut productivity

The prese nt research was carried out with the objetive to sudy the competition periods effects on peanut growth and productivity. The experiment was conducted in a Latossol Vermelho Escuro sandy phase soil in Jaboticabal region. Differents weed competitions periods where the treatments, from the plant emergence to 14, 28, 42, 56, 70, 84 and 117 days. After the competition period the crop was weed ed every 14 days periods up to harvest. Included was a treatmentin which weed control was carried out during all development cycle. The row spacing was 0,60 m, the seed ingrate 25 seed/m and the cultivar "Tatu-53". The main weed species in the experimental area were Cenchrus echinatus L., Digitaria sanguinalis (L.) Scop., Alternanthera fico idea (L.) R. Br., Emilia sonchi fo lia DC. and Sida spp. The critical competition started between the 42nd and the 56th days of peanut cycle. The main caracteristics of the peanut production affected by weed s were grain and pod production per plant and per hectare pod number per plant and plot and, also, gram dimensions distribution.
