KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT IN LIBRARIES: THE CASE OF THE INTEGRATED LIBRARIES SYSTEM OF THE FEDERAL INSTITUTE OF SANTA CATARINA

ABSTRACT

The objective of this article is to analyze the current state of the processes related to Knowledge Management in the Integrated Library System of the Federal Institute of Santa Catarina, aiming to propose a set of practices that contribute to the systematization of Knowledge Management in these libraries. The research deals with a case study with a qualitative approach and descriptive character. For data collection, seven semi-structured interviews were applied to librarians working in the referred library system, in addition to documentary research, used to triangulate the results. Content analysis was used to process the data. The main results indicated that the Library Forum is an important strategy for the library system. The physical collection is elementary, but there are efforts to offer digital resources. The different user profiles require strategies to serve different audiences. The technological infrastructure is appropriate, however, emerging technologies are not employed. Physical spaces are widely used and are heterogeneous among the system's libraries. There is potential to organize a Working Group to provide the evolution of discussions on Knowledge Management. The GC@BU Framework recognizes libraries as Complex Adaptive Systems and can support the systematization of Knowledge Management, considering the need for adaptation.
