Details the creation and implementation of the Automated Inventory System for the Integrated Library System of the University of São Paulo - SIBi/USP -, highlighting the advantages of the use of technology to make the process more efficient reliable and faster. The model was shown to be flexible to the particularities of the collections and the libraries. The articles also lists the main requirements for automation procedures, as well as the technologies involved, and those available on the market. After completing the pilot phase, the model was approved by USP libraries.
