ACKNOWLEDGMENTS IN PUBLICATION: EDITORIAL GUIDELINES FOR AUTHORS OF JOURNALS INDEXED IN THE SCIELO BRAZIL COLLECTION

ABSTRACT

Authors and editors perform a central role in the recording and dissemination of information about non-authorial forms of collaboration through acknowledgment texts. It analyzes the editorial guidelines for authors in journals indexed in the SciELO Brazil Collection. It aims to identify information regarding the inclusion of acknowledgments in publishing. This is an exploratory and descriptive research, whose corpus consists of 308 journals from several major areas. The results show high percentages of journals from experimental and laboratory major areas, that specify editorial guidelines on acknowledgments in publications and comply with international guidelines. On the other hand, in the theoretical and conceptual major areas, the rates are moderate, contrasting with the compliance with national and international guidelines on ethics and good practices in publishing. It concludes that, although the freedom of authorial publication and the autonomy of journal editors must be respected, there are research demands related to information metric studies, communication analysis and scientific collaboration that need to be taken into consideration.
