An overview of undergraduate courses in information management in Brazil

Abstract

The importance of Information Management as a research and market area is increasingly clear and necessary in the most varied aspects. In the scope of its contributions and advances, interdisciplinarity with areas such as Administration, Information Science, Computer Science, and others, is remarkable, allowing the conception of methodologies, strategies and processes to foster innovation and the best use of information. However, the interdisciplinarity of Information Management generates different visions and interpretations regarding the basic set of disciplines that compose it, as can be observed in the Pedagogical Projects of the undergraduate courses in Brazil. In this context, this article proposes to build a panorama of Information Management in Brazil, through the development of an exploratory analysis about the higher courses in this area, in order to promote subsidies and data for discussions about their trends and needs, presenting numerical results and graphs of similarity between terms, based on the use of statistical methods and textual classification. Finally, discussions about the profiles of the courses are based on the analyzes carried out, revealing particularities and characteristics of each of them, which strengthened and acquired the interdisciplinary character of Information Management, and its connective faces with other areas.
