A análise da influência de fatores culturais no estresse psicológico (além dos sociais e psicológicos) tem sido dificultada em função do desenvolvimento incompleto de teorias culturais que resultem em medidas fidedignas e válidas de fatores culturais que possam ser incorporados a modelos multivariados. Neste artigo apresenta-se tanto tal teoria quanto uma metodologia e elas são aplicadas ao estudo da distribuição na comunidade das aflições psicológicas em uma área urbana do Brasil. Nesta teoria e metodologia, cultura é conceituada como modelos culturais compartilhados que são realizados de maneira imperfeita nos comportamentos cotidianos. A ligação do modelo cultural com o comportamento individual é colocada como "consonância cultural". Mostra-se que a consonância cultural em dois domínios diferentes está associada ao estresse psicológico independentemente de covariáveis e de outras variáveis intervenientes. São discutidas também as implicações destes resultados para pesquisas futuras.

Examining the influence of cultural factors on psychological distress, relative to other (e.g. social and psychological) influences, has been difficult due to the incomplete development of a theory of culture that leads to the reliable and valid measurement of cultural factors in such a way that these can be incorporated into multivariate models. In this paper we present both such a theory and such a methodology, and apply it to the study of the community distribution of psychological distress in an urban area in Brazil. In this theory and method, culture is conceptualized as consisting of shared cultural models that are imperfectly realized in mundane behaviors. The link of cultural model and individual behavior is referred to as "cultural consonance". Here we show that cultural consonance in two different domains is associated with psychological stress, independently from covariates and possible confounding variables. Implications of the results for future research are also discussed.

O desemprego estrutural pode ser apontado como um dos principais fenômenos da fase atual do capitalismo. O objetivo deste estudo foi levantar algumas categorias associadas ao desemprego e analisar estratégias adotadas por indivíduos frente a essa situação. Para tanto, foram realizados estudos de casos com vinte sujeitos desempregados, de ambos os sexos, com idade entre 30 e 45 anos e candidatos às vagas oferecidas pelo Sistema Nacional de Empregos (SINE) em Ribeirão Preto. Os resultados mostraram estratégias predominantemente individualizadas para o enfrentamento da situação de desemprego, marcadas pela busca de emprego junto às agências especializadas, aliada à realização de trabalhos precários. Os resultados indicam a necessidade de procurar formas de suporte à população estudada e que considerem questões afetivas associadas ao fenômeno do desemprego, privilegiando ações coletivas às individualizadas.

The structural unemployment is a current phenomenon of the capitalism. The aim of this study was to investigate which are the major effects of the unemployment. A total of 20 study cases were developed with unemployed people; all of them were applying for jobs offered by the National Employment System in Ribeirão Preto (Brazil). Both genders and ages ranging from 35 to 45 years old were accepted for the positions. The results showed some strategies (predominantly individualized) used when facing unemployment situations. These strategies were characterized by the realization of precarious work and search for jobs in specialized organizations. Our results pointed out the necessity of searching new forms of supporting the studied population, considering affective features associated to the unemployment phenomenon and favoring shared actions and not individualized ones.

O presente trabalho, de cunho etnográfico, toma como foco de análise o cotidiano de uma família multigeracional, sob a perspectiva de mulheres de três gerações diferentes, que habitam o mesmo teto: avó, mãe e neta. As narrativas sobre eventos cotidianos, principalmente os relacionamentos familiares, colhidas no período de dez anos, revelam aspectos da estrutura complexa da comunicação na família em um mundo partilhado, capaz de produzir sentido, mas também de gerar conflitos. A partir de entrevistas semi - estruturadas com a avó, a mãe e a filha adolescente, foram identificadas condições de risco (violência e abuso de álcool) no âmbito das relações interpessoais. Pode-se inferir que os papéis não são claramente delimitados, o que se expressa no ciclo de transferência de responsabilidades e no exercício da autoridade. A atmosfera é tensa, a violência, já incorporada ao cotidiano, apresenta-se como ponto culminante dos conflitos, enraizada nos relacionamentos, distorcendo as percepções e dificultando a comunicação. Observam-se estratégias através das quais as mulheres continuam se afirmando como eixo em torno do qual a família estrutura seu cotidiano e seus projetos de vida.

This work integrates an ethnographic study and the focus is the daily life of a multigenerational family, through the perspective of the three women of the family: grandmother, mother and granddaughter. The narratives about daily events, primarily about family relationships, registered during ten years, reveal aspects of the complex structure of communication. This shared world is able to produce meanings, but also to originate conflicts. From semi-structured interviews with the women: the grandmother, the mother and an adolescent daughter, risk conditions have been identified (violence and alcohol abuse) in the interpersonal relations orbit. It can be deduced that the roles are not well defined, what can be better expressed in the responsibilities transference cycle and authority. The atmosphere is tense, the violence is part of daily life, appears like a culminant point of conflicts, takes root in relationships, changes perceptions and, above all, makes communication difficult. It is possible to observe the strategies through which these women continue to affirm themselves as the center of the family's daily life and its future projects.

A literatura especializada sobre família tem produzido, num leque variado de abordagens, um número significativo de estudos, incluindo a Demografia Histórica. Em Portugal, uma ampla documentação referente às visitas pastorais, de vários arcebispados, vem se constituindo numa fonte importantíssima de estudos, permitindo analisar e compreender fenômenos ligados ao casamento, aos nascimentos legítimos e ilegítimos, às questões de transferência de patrimônio Este trabalho tem como objetivo explorar diferentes fontes e cruzar as informações provenientes de registros paroquiais, rol de confessos, testamentos e fontes fiscais, visando analisar a nupcialidade e a reprodução social das famílias e dos indivíduos, verificando as condições em que ocorriam denúncias aos visitadores.

The specialized literature about family is producing, in varied approaches, a significant number of studies, including some in Historical Demography. In Portugal there is a great documentation about bishops pastoral visitation, and these materials are an important source for different studies affording the opportunity of analyzing and understanding the phenomena of legal and illegal birth, and the questions of heritage transmission. This paper intends to explore different sources and cross their data in order to obtain reports coming from parochial reports, with the aim of analyzing marriage, family and individual social reproduction, and the conditions under which occurred the denunciations to the visitors.

A partir de pesquisa realizada com dez adolescentes do sexo feminino das camadas médias de Ribeirão Preto-SP, este trabalho analisa a constituição da identidade de gênero dessas adolescentes, suas relações com a família e com o grupo de pares e os vínculos afetivos com parceiros com os quais se fica e com namorados. A análise dos dados sugere que apesar da mudança nos padrões culturais e da nova posição assumida pelas mulheres, a constituição da identidade de gênero das adolescentes é marcada por ambigüidades em torno dos papéis femininos, o que contribui para que elas incorporem essas mesmas ambigüidades em sua conduta.

On the basis of a survey of middle-class adolescent girls from Ribeirão Preto, the present study analyzes the constitution of gender identity of these girls, their relations with family and with peer group and the affective ties with occasional or steady boy friends. Analysis of the data suggests that, despite the change in cultural patterns and of the new positions of women, the constitution of gender identity of girls is marked by ambiguities about female roles, a fact that causes these girls to incorporate these same ambiguities into their behavior.

A Psicoterapia de Grupo com Casais (PGC) como modalidade específica de tratamento em um Hospital-dia (HD) público ligado à Universidade foi implantada em 1997, com o objetivo de destacar o casal como pólo de intervenção no tratamento, e apoiá-lo na situação de crise, com um dos cônjuges em regime de semi-internação na instituição. Este trabalho tem o objetivo descrever esta modalidade de tratamento, a partir da observação de onze sessões psicoterápicas consecutivas, gravadas em vídeo e transcritas na íntegra, com dados analisados segundo a modalidade de conteúdo categorial temático. Trata-se de um grupo com intensa participação dos terapeutas, que estimulam os casais e atuam através do fornecimento de informações, tendendo os participantes a serem mais passivos no processo, trazendo temas relativos ao cotidiano familiar, suas dificuldades em lidar com a patologia do cônjuge. Conclui-se que o grupo permite apoio para elaborar questões próprias da relação entre cônjuges em crise.

The Group Psychotherapy with Couples (GPC) as a specific modality of treatment in a public Day Hospital of the University was implanted in 1997, with the objective of placing the couple as treatment intervention pole, and support it in a crisis situation, with one of the partners in partial admission at the institution. The present study aims to describe this modality of treatment, through the observation of eleven consecutive psychotherapy sessions, recorded in video and later transcribed. The data were analyzed according to thematic categorical content analysis. It was observed that it is a support group, with intense participation of the therapists, who actively stimulated the couples and act providing information, and with the participants in one more passive role, bringing themes related to the familiar quotidian and difficulties in leading with the partner pathology. It is concluded that the group allows specific support to elaborate the relationship among partners in crisis.

O desenvolvimento da psicologia científica, a partir de W. James, passou a implicar uma questão da mente e da consciência. Esta foi negada como objeto de conhecimento científico pelo behaviorismo, tem sido estudada nos seus aspectos funcionais pela ciência cognitiva e neurociências e enfrenta o desafio hoje de dar conta da relação entre a experiência subjetiva e os processos físicos do cérebro. Arno Engelmann vem examinando a consciência como ponto de partida da questão, com uma contribuição especial ao seu desenvolvimento no Brasil.

The development of the scientific psychology, starting with W. James, evolves the issue of the mind and the consciousness. Behaviorism refused the consciousness as scientific subject; the recent advances of Cognitive Science and Neuroscience develop its functional aspects. The present challenge is to consider the relationship between subjective experience and the physical processes of the brain. Arno Engelmann is examining the Consciousness as the starting point of the issue, offering a special contribution to its development in Brazil.

Baseando-se na repartição da "consciência" feita por Tolman, Engelmann chama uma de consciência-imediata, a parte individual e presente, e outra de consciência-mediata, a parte restante. Engelmann subdivide a consciência-mediata em consciência-mediata-do-observador, individual mas passada, e consciência-mediata-de-outros. Engelmann apresenta ainda mais três teorias aparentadas: a teoria das oito hipóteses básicas, nome dado às primeiras hipóteses que partem da consciência-imediata e terminam na consciência-mediata-de-outros; a teoria dos indicadores de consciência, em número bem maior que o simples relato verbal; e a teoria dos cinco escalões de percepto, nome dado às diversas atitudes que um ser humano é capaz de exercer ante um percepção consciente.

Based on Tolman's "consciousness" partition, Engelmann call the two by the same noun qualified by different adjectives: the individual and present immediate-consciousness, and the remaining mediate-consciousness. According to Engelmann, this remaining consciousness can be parted again in an individual but past observer's-mediate-consciousness and an other's-mediate-consciousness. Three more related theories are presented by Engelmann: the eight basic hypotheses theory, name given to the first hypotheses that conduct someone to leave immediate-consciousness and arrive at the other's-mediate-consciousness; the consciousness indicators theory, a name that comprehends the verbal report; and the five percept echelon's theory, name given to conscious perception attitude in human beings.

Este texto tem por objetivo situar e discutir consciência, intencionalidade e intersubjetividade nas teorias fenomenológicas de Edmund Husserl e Maurice Merleau-Ponty, no contexto de um debate sobre a Teoria das Duas Consciências de Arno Engelmann. São propostas três questões ao professor Arno Engelmann.

The aim of this paper is to situate and discuss consciousness, intentionality and intersubjectivity in Edmund Husserl's and Maurice Merleau-Ponty's phenomenological theories, in the context of a debate about Arno Engelmann's Theory of the Two Consciousness. Three questions are proposed to professor Arno Engelmann.

Este texto é resultado de um exercício de reflexão, desde a ótica semiótico-construtivista, a respeito de alguns aspectos centrais das formulações teóricas de Arno Engelmannn sobre consciência. Inicialmente é feita uma síntese das proposições de Engelmann sobre o tema, consideradas centrais para esta reflexão. A seguir, são indicadas, em contrapartida, algumas proposições nucleares do construtivismo semiótico-cultural, com respeito à relação sujeito-realidade, que podem estabelecer diálogo com as proposições engelmanianas, anteriormente destacadas. Finalmente, são colocadas algumas questões a respeito da abordagem de Engelmann à consciência, advindas desse diálogo.

This paper arises from a semiotic-constructivist reflective exercise respect to some central features of Arno Engelmann´s theoretical formulations about consciousness. First, some of the main Engelmann´s proposals about the focused subject are summarized. Following and in counterpart, some nuclear semiotic-construtivist proposals addressing to the subject-reality relationship , which can be viewed as establishing a dialogue with the previously Engelmaniann formulations, are highlighted. Last but not least, some questions respect to the Engelmann´s approach to consciousness followed from that dialogue are set to be discussed.

Lívia Simão citou a semelhança entre sua posição psicológica construtivista semiótico-cultural e as duas consciências de Engelmann. Nelson Coelho Jr. acha semelhança entre Husserl e Merleau-Ponty com o estudo da consciência de Engelmann. Entretanto, apesar do origem do conhecimento em si mesmo, Coelho Jr. aceita a realidade das outras pessoas e do mundo. Arno Engelmann respondeu aos raciocínios dos comentadores. Em resposta a Coelho Jr. declara que sua posição continua cética: a realidade das outras pessoas e do mundo é uma hipótese, ainda que uma hipótese de enorme probabilidade.

Lívia Simão referred to the similarities between her constructivist-semiotic-cultural psychological approach and Engelmann's two consciousness proposal. Nelson Coelho Jr. comments the similarities between Husserl and Merleau-Ponty approach and Engelmann's studies of consciousness. Nevertheless, despite the origin of the knowledge in himself, Coelho Jr. accept the reality of other people and the reality of the world. Arno Engelmann answered the arguments of the two commentators. In answering to Coelho Jr., he declared that he is faithful to a skeptic thesis. The reality of other people and of the world is an hypothesis, although a very high probability hypothesis.
