Capitalism disseminates technological advancements with its restructuring character. It reveals itself as an intriguing phenomenon that impacts substantially everyday life in modern societies altering basic human behavior categories. In perspective, the main aim of this study was to apprehend and bring to light some of the characteristics that institutionalizes this unchanging mode of production and reflects the world of work since the beginning of the 20th century to our days. For such, we selected and investigated a corpus extracted from the German film Metropolis of Fritz Lang, 1926. The significance and consequent interpretation of the data was obtained through image and movement analysis as an analytical method. The conceptual framework was based on the Marxist theory of Ricardo Antunes. This way, we conclude that the precarious world of work, the alienation and exploration of the work force are characteristicallypresent in both of the analyzed worlds - fact and fiction.
