RELATIONS IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION SUPERVISED PRACTICUM: A STUDY BASED ON NORBERT ELIAS’S ESTABLISHED-OUTSIDERS RELATIONS

Abstract

This study examines relations between Physical Education teacher students (outsiders) and school agents (established) during supervised practicum and identified the impacts of this situation on the development of that activity, based on Norbert Elias’s established-outsiders relations theory. The study was exploratory with a qualitative focus. It included 61 participants linked to the practicum (both students and teachers). Semi-structured interviews and focus groups were used as research instruments. Results underwent content analysis with qualitative analysis software NVivo 10. The data showed a large gap between student teachers and school agents in carrying out supervised practicum, which needs to be urgently examined and overcome in order to strengthen that training process.
