Abstract
This article identifies teleological meanings in Article 217 of Brazil’s Federal Constitution, based on their genealogy. A descriptive-exploratory research method was adopted including analysis of the documents produced by the National Constituent Assembly. It found that different themes were added in a somehow unsystematized way, focusing on defending private interests. The right to sport was not a priority and its inclusion in the text was mere rhetoric.
