DEBATING FEMININE BODIES: TO BE WOMAN BY RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICS

Abstract:

Taking as a reference the observations and speeches of athletes and coaches of rhythmic gymnastics (GR), through ethnography as a methodological perspective, we try to discuss some of the multiple inscriptions on the female bodies and some of their representations. Types of femininities can be distinguished in this sport, in which bodies are educated and present characteristics that help us reflect the patterns of femininity. The analysis of this study contribute to a debate about gender relations in sports, incorporation and reproduction of discourses referring to the female body, and the counterpoints between femininities and masculinities.
