This paper aims to read Memórias póstumas de Brás Cubas reflecting on the experiences and the velleities of this son of the Brazilian XIX century wealthy elite. Such fictional memoires, written from the grave, translate aspects of the "experienced real", emphasizing the moral failure, the injustices and privileges of a whole social class, personified in the figure of such character.
