Discussing the findings of a research on "Urban Environment and Quality of Life in São Paulo" carried out by CEDEC, the autor argues that there is a widespread perception of ambiental problems among the population. This is seen as revealing a potential interative dynamics involving public, communitarian and individual initiatives towards the solution of these problems.
