Pattern reversal visual evoked potential normative study

OBJECTIVE: To obtain reference values for PR-VEP and to analyze influence of technical parameters, visual angle (VA), and biological factors, gender, age and interocular latencies differences. METHODS: 60 volunteers (30 male/30 female), divided in three age groups (20-61 years), were submitted to PR-VEP, which was done separately in each eye with two VA, 14 and 28. We analyzed the following latency values: N75, P100 and N120. RESULTS: Mean latencies (msec) with 14 and 28 min were respectively: 78.2 and 74.3 (N75); 102.3 and 98.8 (P100); 136.7 and 130.4 (N120). N75 was similar in both sexes; P100 longer in men only for 14 min; N120 was longer in men in both sizes. The age studied, between 20-61 years, did not influence on the results for both VA. There was no significance for interocular differences. CONCLUSIONS: In this study PR-VEP showed longer values with VA 14 than 28, and men had longer values for some latencies and check sizes.
