ABSTRACT
Objective
To analyze the prevalence of suicidal thoughts among patients from a transgender outpatient clinic in the Federal District, as well as the variables associated with these events.
Methods
A cross-sectional epidemiological study was carried out based on a review of the medical records of patients attending the transgender outpatient clinic of the Hospital Dia, in the Federal District, from August 2017 to September 2018. Data were then tabulated by the program Excel 2016 and then analyzed by the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS).
Results
In this study, we observed intervening and variable factors influencing the development of suicidal behavior, with a correlation between modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors. The findings of this study corroborate with the international literature on suicidal behavior, and the variables that may be related to this fact.
Conclusion
Socio-demographic, housing, and psychiatric issues compose these factors, demonstrating possible relationships with suicidal ideation. Thus, it is possible to show situations of intervention and the elaboration of strategies and policies that can improve the quality of life of these individuals and reduce rates of suicidal behavior.
