Eduardo Palmerio, an intellectual profile: humorism and political culture in the chronicles of the São Paulo press during the 1940's

Eduardo Palmerio (1906-1076) was a popular columnist who worked in the Sao Paulo press in the decades of 1940's to 1970's. His chronicles were characterized by a great sense of humor, social criticism and independent political stance. In this article we try to recover the memory of the chronicler through an intellectual profile followed by a documental analysis, relating the themes of his works to the political ideas in vogue during the period of democratic opening of the second half of the 1940's. We found that the chronicles of Palmerio reverberated a political culture present in the public opinion that went beyond the ideological sectarianism and parties of that period to conceive the development of Brazilian society from the perspective of moral and humanistic ethics.
