The Self-Repression of Desire in Marta, by Medeiros e Albuquerque: A Deleuzian-Guattarian Analysis of Incest

Abstract

From a number of reflections present in O Anti-Édipo, by Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari (2011), regarding the perpetuity of the Oedipus complex in capitalist contemporary society, and, specially, in literature, as the sign of absence and incestuous drive, the present article discusses the self-repression of desire in the novel Marta(2013), by Medeiros e Albuquerque, a unique and privileged example of a Brazilian novel entirely crafted around the theme of incest. In this regard, this article points out the intimate connection between literature and deleuzian-guattarian thought, and the simultaneous reflection that can exist between them.
