Teaching career path and training of occupational therapists to primary health care

This study aimed to identify and analyze the teaching career path and training of occupational therapists for Primary Health Care (PHC) in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. It is a qualitative research through interviews with 17 occupational therapy teachers. Data were categorized into two topics. 1) Teaching career path identified with PHC due to training experiences, professional practice and desires of changes to the clinical possibilities of territorial and extra-mural action and community occupational therapy. 2) The teachers reported training for PHC in courses through different teaching strategies, research and extension. Teaching career path in PHC and practice-theoretical learning needs to be valued in the training of occupational therapists acting in PHC.
