Evaluation of the 2005 "Criança saudável: educação dez" teaching material

The educational project "Criança saudável - educação dez" aims to promote nutritional education in schools, focusing on first to fourth grade students and teachers. It consists in the distribution of comics to children and a Teacher's Guide. This objective of this study was to analyze the comics as didactic material on healthy food. Comics were qualitatively evaluated. A description was of the verbal and visual aspects, as well as the characteristics of the narrative and language undertaken. Then the significance of elements in the story were analyzed. Finally, the scientific information presented in the material was analyzed. The results of this study indicate inconsistencies in the production of the material. Restrictions were found with respect to the presence of racial discrimination, the incentive to consume industrialized products and the presence of conceptual mistakes related to food and nutrition.
