Lycophytes and ferns of the ecological station of Panga, Uberlândia, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil: equisetaceae, Lycopodiaceae, and key to the families

This paper provides the taxonomic treatment for the species of Equisetaceae and Lycopodiaceae of the Ecological Station of Panga and the key for all the families in the area. This Ecological Station covers an area of 409.5 hectares and is located about 30 Km to the South of the city of Uberlândia, Minas Gerais State, Brazil, between the geographical coordinates 19º09'20"-19º11'10" S and 48º23'20"-48º24'35" W, at 740 to 840 m. The area has a good remnant of the natural vegetation of the region, presenting different savannah and forest physiognomies. Equisetaceae are represented by one species (Equisetum giganteum L.) and Lycopodiaceae by one genera and four species (Lycopodiella alopecuroides (L.) Cranfill, L. caroliniana (L.) Pic. Serm. var. meridionalis (Underw. & F.E. Lloyd) B. Øllg. & P.G. Windisch, L. camporum B. Øllg. & P.G. Windisch and L. cernua (L.) Pic. Serm.). Identification keys for families, and species, descriptions, illustrations of diagnostic characters and geographical distribution are presented.
