Taxonomic synopsis of the genus Cyrtopodium R. Br. (Orchidaceae, Epidendroideae) for the municipality of Niquelândia, including a new record for Goiás State, Brazil

ABSTRACT

Cyrtopodium R. Br. is a neotropical genus with 50 species, of which 37 are present in Brazil, especially in the Cerrado, its center of diversity and endemism. Works on the genus for the country are limited to classical literature, a synoptical treatment, descriptions of new species, and floristic listings. We present a taxonomic synopsis for Cyrtopodium species occurring in the municipality of Niquelândia, Goiás State, Brazil. Fourteen species were found (C. blanchetii, C. braemii, C. brandonianum, C. brunneum, C. cristatum, C. confusum, C. eugenii, C. paludicolum, C. poecilum, C. saintlegerianum, C. triste, C. vernum, C. virescens and C. withnerii), among which C. confusum constitutes a new record for the Goiás State. The species are contrasted by means of a key, have their geographic distributions and morphological relationships commented and are represented by images. Cyrtopodium confusum, the novelty registered here, is described and its distribution mapped.
