“We have a Public Walkway, worthy of this advanced capital": spaces of sociabilities in photographic records of the Paranaense Museum archives. Curitiba. 1913-1930

ABSTRACT

The present paper discusses the organization of spaces of sociability in the city of Curitiba, from photographic records in the collection of the Museum of Paraná, in the temporal clippings of 1913 and 1930, taking as a case study the transformations which occurred in Public Walkways. The choice of these spaces as milestones for analysis picks up on two historic moments in the city of Curitiba: the urban reform proposed by Cândido de Abreu during his management from 1913, and 1930, at which time the City Hall faced a period of adjustments due to the lack of resources destined for improvements in urban facilities, prior to the great urban reform indicated in the Agache Plan in 1941.First we examined concepts related to cities as a visual experience, the sociabilities, daily life, and urban imagery, after the urban reforms and aesthetic transformations that occurred in Curitiba during the Belle Époque period. Subsequently, we circumscribed the transformations of the space of Public Walkways analyzing archive photographs from the collection of the Paranaense Museum. Finally, we considered the circulation of imagery, images, and memories related to the city of Curitiba in archive collections of the Museum of Paraná and Cultural Foundation of Curitiba, belonging to the Municipality of Curitiba.
