This article concerns the question of the transference of capital cities in The Americas. In order to investigate connections between city and power, this study concentrates on two aspects: the dream or imagining of the new; and the redefining of the old. Major transfers of municipal focus or sovereignty are historical processes that interweave urban, political, and psychological dimensions. These new capitals are thus the subjects of dreams, and these (social or political) dreams are the catalysts (or frameworks) for discussions about the very future of the nation. These dreams can be recast as historical protagonists - In every transfer of capital, an abandoned capital is created. So many deposed, dethroned queens! Besides the new capital, we must also assess the old capital: how it adapts itself to this new status, how the space of power is redefined, and how this is understood by the population. These approaches were taken as an invitation to read about the relationship between city and power in a different manner.
