In Fawcett's trail: the shift of João de Minas towards popular literature of adventure in the 1930s

The aim of this paper is to analyze the shift towards popular literature made by the writer João de Minas. In Brazil, in the 1930s, the publishing market was marked by the diffusion of popular literature in the adventure, sentimental and police genres through collections launched by major publishers. In this context, John Mines established the project of founding the popular novel in the country, which began with the composition of the adventure novel "Horrores e Mistérios dos Sertões Desconhecidos"(Horrors and Mysteries of the Unknown Backwoods). Published in 1934, the three parts of the story show the changes of the writer towards the style connected to mass popular fiction style.
