Brazilians informatics beginnings: the "São Paulo period" through the lens of the press

Informatics is the major technological revolution of recent decades and its effects can be felt in almost every area of human knowledge. Despite this massive presence in society, Brazilian historiography has only given its first steps towards the consolidation of informatics as an important field of research, linked to the history of science. The purpose of this article is to contribute to the discussion on the history of computing in Brazil by analyzing the first imports of computers that have occurred in the late 1950s. Due to the shortage of sources on the subject we used files of journals of mass circulation aiming an accurate mapping of the first computers installations, as well as social phenomena triggered by these machines.
