Violence as a show: bread, blood and circus

This article aims at analyzing the issue of violence in Ancient Rome. With focus on gladiators games, the objective is to disarticulate preconceived ideas and judgments that are present in the historiography about the theme. At the same time, a parallel was drawn with the contemporary violence, based on the principle that violence is not a precise concept, neither a word with a sense that remains unchanged along the historic process.
