Abstract
The article discusses the relationship between Labor Justice, workers, and their unions in the light of recent Brazilian historiographic production that uses labor lawsuits as a source or object of research. The idea defended is that the institution, born during the Vargas corporatist project, underwent major transformations in confrontation with aspirations and actions of social actors, especially the labor movement. The theme is developed from the analysis of the creation of this specialized justice and its meaning in the view of one of its creators, the jurist and sociologist Oliveira Viana, in contrast to the findings raised by current historical research regarding the effective practice of laws and rights. over the following decades in Brazil.
