HISTORICAL-EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH AND ITALIAN IMMIGRATION: A REVIEW OF STUDIES

ABSTRACT

The goal of this text is to review the existing research literature on the theme of history of the schooling process of Italian immigrants and their descendants. Italian immigrants settled in Brazil, mostly during the late 19th century, and organized several institutions, among which the schools. This research is justified by the need to know the existing productions about these schools and thus outline future investigation trends. This way, the study herein focuses on published articles, thesis, dissertations, books, and event records, in the area of History of Education. Therefore, the methodology follows the studies on state-of-the-art. Based on the survey carried out, it was possible to observe that some Brazilian regions have been more researched than others and that there is still a lot to be studied about these educational institutions.
